Pharr, Texas – The City of Pharr will join communities throughout the nation for the 2018 National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3, with a full day of activities to commemorate the occasion. This year’s theme for the is Pray for America – UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Pharr officials will host a private luncheon, a public community event of prayer, and a public “Community Walk of Faith” beginning at noon TOMORROW, Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Pharr Events Center (3000 N. Cage in Pharr).
At noon, elected officials, members of the religious community, representatives of the local business community, and invited guests will gather for a private Prayer Luncheon which will celebrate and bring together local religious leaders from all faiths who will be conducting prayers for the Nation, Military, Government, Education and Youth, the Media, Churches, Families, and Businesses. Media is invited to attend to cover the event.
From 1 pm to 5 pm, the public is invited to attend prayer segments moderated by community leaders, which will highlight specific topics including a Women’s Hour of Prayer at 2 pm, a Business Hour of Prayer at 3 pm, and an Education Hour at 4 pm. At 6 pm, the public is invited to participate in the “Community Walk of Faith” which will begin from Ashley’s Furniture (401 N. Jackson Rd.) and end at the Pharr Parks & Recreation Department (413 E. Clark Ave.) in Pharr. All public events are FREE and open to anyone who would like to participate.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in unity and prayer,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. “We invite the entire public to participate and join us as we pray for unity, peace, and prosperity for our families and for our community,” he continued.
