Pharr, Texas – Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, MD, and the Pharr City Commission are pleased to announce that they will host a signing ceremony to formalize a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the City of Pharr, Texas and the municipality of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. The signing ceremony will be held at 2 pm on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Pharr City Commission Meeting Room (118 S. Cage, 2nd Floor) in Pharr.

The City of Pharr, represented by Mayor Hernandez, and the Municipality of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, represented by Mayor Jesús Antonio Valdes Palazuelos, in addition to representatives and officials from both cities, will be on hand as the two parties sign the memorandum of understanding, with special guest Maki Ortiz, Mayor of Reynosa serving as a witness to the partnership. The MOU will formalize the bi-national effort to promote growth and expand economic opportunities in both cities, through joint initiatives in trade, investment, innovation and knowledge transfer. The partnership will promote initiatives to increase business opportunities and strengthen the cultural, historic and economic ties between the cities.

The partnership, Global Cities Economic Partnership Pharr-Culiacan, will develop and update an Annual Operating Program to fulfill the commitments set forth under the partnership. The partnership takes effect on the date of signature and remains in effect for three years, upon which the MOU may be extended by written mutual agreement of both parties.
