Pharr, TX – In an effort to bring government closer to the people and to more effectively respond to the needs of its citizens, Pharr officials announce the launch of a citizen question-and-answer section on the city’s official website. Pharr citizens with questions or concerns can submit their question via an online portal, and they will be answered directly by Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. or City Manager Juan Guerra. Questions will be received by Mayor Hernandez and Guerra, who will research the appropriate response and respond directly to the citizen in a timely manner. The online tool will supplement outreach mechanisms already employed by the City of Pharr, such as “City Hall on Call” wherein Pharr department directors and staff set up shop in community areas to address citizen questions, issues and concerns in person. Other effective outreach tools that the City of Pharr uses are social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Periscope, to name a few.
Since taking office last May, Mayor Hernandez has led the effort to provide a more transparent government. “We work for the citizens of Pharr, and we want to be as responsive to their needs, concerns, and questions,” said Hernandez. “Our IT and media departments help us remain updated and current with technology trends to engage with the public in innovative ways, and this portal allows us to do so,” he continued.
City Manager Juan Guerra further explained, “We noticed on our social media pages that there were instances when city employees monitoring comments would find a need for clarification on certain issues or to clear up misinformation.”
“We wanted a means to provide accurate and timely responses to specific issues or concerns that were brought up by our citizens, and we are confident this solution will help us meet their needs,” Guerra continued.
The online portal is solely for Pharr residents and businesses, and can be easily accessed at https://Pharr.LIFE . A tab at the top of the page states “Ask a Question,” where Pharr citizens can submit their questions. Users must validate their Pharr home or business address in order to submit a question and have it answered. Submitted questions will also be posted on the website, along with the response.
