Pharr, Texas – Pharr city officials ushered in the Christmas holiday by hosting the city’s annual Christmas Posada, an event celebrating holiday festivities through music, food, characters, and activities aimed at spreading Christmas cheer to Pharr families and the community.Â
“The Christmas Posada allows us to celebrate and commemorate the beginning of the Christmas season and holiday festivities in Pharr,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. “Each year our event continues to grow as we welcome families not only from Pharr but from throughout the region,” Hernandez added. “Families were especially excited at the opportunity to enjoy free ice skating, visiting with Santa, the Grinch, and Frozen characters at this year’s event,” he added.Â
The festival also included carnival rides, pictures with Santa Claus, storytime with Mrs. Claus, a Grinch’s Village, a Polar Express Experience, Elsa and an ice village, among other fun festivities.Â
Among the many activities, a feature of the festival is always the concert. Headlining the Christmas Posada this year was country singer and 2008’s Best New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music, Jack Ingram. Ingram’s recording career has spanned more than 20 years, recently releasing his eighth studio album, Midnight Motel.
Ingram’s hits include “Wherever You Are,” which was his first number-one single; other well-known hits include, “Lips of an Angel,” “Maybe She’ll Get Lonely,” and “Barefoot and Crazy,” among others. Ingram also was awarded “Song of the Year” in 2018 by the Academy of Country Music for “Tin Man” by Miranda Lambert, which he co-wrote.
Opening for Ingram was Charley Crockett, a San Benito native, whose unique approach to American roots music is “a mix of Texas blues, classic country, and Cajun soul,” according to his website. Crockett recently released the album Lil G.L.’s Blue Bonanza, an album that includes Crockett’s interpretations of old-school country songs originally performed by George Jones, Ray Charles, among others.Â
The Christmas Posada also included a musical performance by Mia, a young Austin, Texas native who has been performing since 2015. Mia recently won a Tejano Music Award for “Best New Artist – Female.”
“Our community had a great time at the event and we thank everyone who joined us in Pharr for the Christmas Posada,” Hernandez continued. “On behalf of the City of Pharr, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!”Â
