The Pharr City Commission proclaimed the City of Pharr a “Healthy Summer Meal for Kids Community.” The Summer Meals Program, in partnership with the Texas Department of Agricultural Commission (TDA), ensures all children have a healthy breakfast and lunch during the summer months when most are out of school.
Currently, FREE meals are available at IDEA Pharr and most PSJA elementary, middle school and high schools that host summer school programs and additional locations throughout the community.
It is estimated that one in four Texas children faces food insecurity, and Summer Food Service Program meals can help children stay healthy and prepare them to return to school ready to learn and thrive. The City of Pharr and community are committed to making sure no child goes hungry this summer.
Accepting the proclamation was Fernando Aguilar, Managing Director of Child Nutrition Program for Idea Public Schools. Mr. Aguilar stressed that the program, which operates from June 4 – August 3, is open to all children and includes two FREE meals a day, breakfast and lunch.
