For the first time the San Antonio Family Association (SAFA) will host its annual charity dove hunt in Castroville. Following the afternoon hunt at the Tschirhart farm on the outskirts of Castroville, the Labor Day event includes a ribeye steak dinner at the Braden Keller Community Center.
“We’re very excited to be in Castroville this year after hosting the last six charity hunting events in Hondo,” stated SAFA’s president Patrick Von Dohlen. “Castroville has become well known for its excellent dove hunting and the Braden Keller Center is a great air-conditioned venue.”
Pete Flores will be the keynote speaker during the dinner. As the state’s former top game warden, Colonel Flores built a strong reputation for implementing community-based law enforcement protocols and successfully coordinating law enforcement operations with local, state and federal law enforcement officials. He grew up in South Texas, graduating from high school in Laredo and attending Laredo Junior College before graduating from Texas A&M University.
The first Hispanic Director of Law Enforcement for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Flores is a graduate of the Governor’s Executive Development Program and the National Conservation Leadership Institute’s Fellowship Program, and served as vice president of the National Association of Conservation Law Enforcement Chiefs. Flores honorably retired from state service in 2012 and now works as a consultant and instructor for the National Association of Conservation Law Enforcement Chiefs Leadership Academy.
The St Louis’ Mens Club will cook to perfection 1” thick, 16 oz. ribeye steaks that will be served on Labor Day, September 3rd at 7:30 pm. People can hunt and enjoy the ribeye steaks or just come for the evening benefit dinner event to savor a steak and hear Peter Flores share hunting stories and regulations pertinent to the family.
