Over $9M in Federal Funding for Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport

BROWNSVILLE, Texas –Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-34) announced that the City of Brownsville has been awarded $9,028,032 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This funding, provided through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Improvement Plan (AIP), will support critical upgrades to the Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport. 

The grant will support phase 2 of the reconstruction of 6,000 feet of Runway 18/36. The project will ensure the runway meets modern safety standards and can accommodate future growth at the airport, improving both efficiency and safety for passenger and cargo flights. 

“This $9 million investment is a significant boost for Brownsville and all of South Texas,” said Congressman Gonzalez. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for South Texas, ensuring that our airports are equipped to handle rising demand without sacrificing safety and reliability. I am committed to making the Rio Grande Valley a vital hub for Texas through the modernization and efficiency of all our ports of entry.”
