EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than $730K worth of drugs in three separate incidents.
On February 15, 2020, Rio Grande City (RGC) Agents observed several subjects loading a white Chevrolet minivan with bundles of narcotics near the Rio Grande in Garceno, Texas. Mobile units responded to the location and, upon arrival, discovered the minivan abandoned. An immediate search of the area revealed several bundles of marijuana in the nearby brush. The bundles weighed over 470 lbs., with an estimated value of $377,000.00. The suspects were observed absconding into Mexico.
A short time later, RGC Agents in La Rosita, Texas, observed a maroon Chevrolet Suburban approach the river and load up with several bundles of narcotics before it proceeded to drive north. As agents responded to the scene, the vehicle changed its course and headed back towards the river. Agents encountered the abandoned Suburban with several bundles of marijuana inside. The bundles weighed over 216 lbs., with an estimated value of $173,000.00.
Almost simultaneously, RGC Agents in La Casita, Texas observed a white Mercury Grand Marquis driving north from the river heading towards FM 1430. The suspect made a U-turn and headed south towards the river upon observing the responding units. The suspect abandoned the vehicle and agents were able to recover several bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighed over 127 lbs., with an estimated value of $103,000.00.
The cases remain under investigation and the Border Patrol is processing all subjects accordingly.
