PHARR, Texas – Over 60 adult students from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) walked the stage on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the PSJA Southwest Early College High School Auditorium to celebrate their graduation from the district’s PSJA College, Career & Technology Academy (CCTA).
This milestone marks not only the completion of high school for these graduates but also the beginning of exciting new opportunities in college, career, and beyond.

The PSJA CCTA serves students ages 18-26 who are working to complete their high school diploma requirements. Whether recovering credits or completing the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR), students at PSJA CCTA are given the tools and support they need to finish strong.
In addition, the academy goes far beyond high school completion. Through innovative programs and partnerships, students are able to earn college credit and industry-recognized certifications while completing their high school diploma. Every student receives a laptop to support their coursework and future readiness.
During the ceremony, CCTA Graduate Karime Briz Escobedo shared a powerful testimonial on how the PSJA CCTA helped her achieve her goals.
“Walking the stage tonight means everything to me,” said Escobedo. “I thought it was too late to finish high school, but this program gave me a second chance. Today is proof that we made it despite all obstacles. I would like to thank my family and my daughter for showing me who I was meant to be. We did it.”
This year’s graduating class includes individuals who not only earned their high school diplomas but also gained credentials in high-demand fields. These additional certifications equip PSJA CCTA graduates with the skills and confidence to enter the workforce or pursue higher education immediately after graduation.

“At PSJA ISD we’re committed to providing opportunities for every learner,” said PSJA ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias. “The success of our CCTA graduates demonstrates the power of second chances and the incredible perseverance of our students, who have proved that it’s never too late to achieve their dreams.”
As they turn their tassels, many of the graduates will continue their college journeys, while others will enter the workforce with credentials that give them a competitive advantage.
