Over $450K Worth of Narcotics Seized by Border Patrol

EDINBURG, Texas â€“ Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdicted two narcotics smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of more than 574 pounds of marijuana.

On March 23, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station (RGC) agents received information of possible narcotics smuggling activity near La Rosita, Texas. Agents and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the area. Upon arrival, they encountered several subjects carrying bundles of possible narcotics toward an apparent load vehicle. The smugglers dropped the bundles and fled back toward the Rio Grande. Agents seized the marijuana that weighedover 227 pounds and is worth more than $181K. Starr County Sheriff’s Office seized the vehicle.

Approximately two hours later, an RGC agent working a mile away from the first narcotics seizure observed several subjects carrying bundles near the river by Garceno, Texas. As agents approached, the subjects absconded back to Mexico, leaving behind six bundles of marijuana. The marijuana seized weighed approximately 347 pounds with an estimated street value of over $277K.
