Over 220 PSJA ISD music students advance to UIL State Contest

PHARR – A total of 227 high school music students in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) earned Superior medals at the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest and advanced to the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest to be held in May. 

“Congratulations to all of our students for competing and advancing to the State level,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “We are proud to offer these extracurricular activities to help our students become well-rounded leaders ready to achieve the highest levels of success.” 

At PSJA ISD, students can participate in the following superior music programs: Band, Orchestra, Choir, Jazz Band and Mariachi. In addition to this, PSJA ISD plans to offer Conjunto Groups at all high schools starting the 2021-2022 school year.

Most recently, PSJA ISD was also named among the Best Communities for Music Education for the 7th consecutive year by the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. 

The PSJA Fine Arts Department strives to provide students with access to a high-quality fine arts education in programs such as art, dance, music and theatre from pre-kinder through graduation.  

PSJA ISD can explore their passion for the arts in a variety of disciplines and settings and can showcase their talents often through performances at campus, district and community events.
