Over $200k in Transportation Funding for Starr County

Rio Grande City, Texas – Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) will announce $232,328,651 in federal funding for transportation projects as part of TxDOT’s Unified Transportation Program (UTP) for 2025 on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. CST

The funding will be used to support 31 individual transportation projects across Starr County.

More than half of the funding will be used to construct and expand roads between Laredo and Roma, Texas along the border as part of TxDOT’s US 83 Corridor Development Plan.

Other funds will be used for a variety of transportation-related projects, including road repaving and sealing, improving traffic signals, constructing sidewalks and ramps, and replacement of road signs.

Funding is part of the TxDOT Unified Transportation Program. The UTP is a medium-range transportation and infrastructure program used to plan and develop projects across Texas.

The program uses a mix of federal, state, and local dollars to fund projects. In Starr County, 79.36% of UTP funding comes from the federal level.
