Edinburg, Texas – Excitement was high as over 1,000 attendees joined Edinburg mayoral candidate Omar Ochoa at an energetic campaign kickoff event as he officially launched his campaign for Mayor of Edinburg in the November 2025 city election.
Attendees were greeted by a festive and fun atmosphere, brimming with enthusiasm and inspiring hope for a new vision to move Edinburg forward in a positive direction. The program began with Ochoa’s wife, Leah Wise, serving as Mistress of Ceremonies, welcoming the standing-room-only crowd of Edinburg residents, families, friends, and supporters who were eager to hear Ochoa’s vision for a stronger, thriving future for Edinburg.
The program continued with current Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza endorsing Ochoa, stating, “He not only has the experience to be our next mayor, he’s got the education, the passion, and he’s one of the smartest people that I know. He’s prepared to lead, and the most important thing about Omar is that he cares deeply for our city.” Garza then introduced former Edinburg Mayor and Omar’s father, Joe Ochoa, who gave a heartfelt testimony to Omar’s drive, dedication, desire to serve, and love for the community that raised him. In a memorable moment of unity, the elder Ochoa invited another former Edinburg Mayor, Richard Garcia, to join him and Mayor Garza on stage—highlighting the strength and solidarity of support Omar’s mayoral campaign has built. Three former mayors supporting one candidate is uncommon, and their endorsement of Omar by these respected community leaders shows their belief that he is the best choice for the position. Omar is prepared to follow in the footsteps of these leaders and lead Edinburg toward a brighter, more prosperous future.
The son of hardworking parents, Ochoa embodies a lifelong dedication to sacrifice, grit, and determination. With deep community ties and a robust educational and professional background, including a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s Degree in Accounting, CPA certification, and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, he is well-equipped, knowledgeable, and experienced to serve as Mayor of Edinburg.
Ochoa, an accomplished attorney, runs his own law firm and served for six years as City Attorney for Edinburg, acting as the city’s top legal advisor. With his leadership, vision, and real-world experience, he is prepared to bring strong, effective leadership to the City of Edinburg. As Mayor, he will focus on creating high-paying jobs, keeping taxes low while advancing major projects, and making sure every family in Edinburg feels safe and supported. After an inspiring video featuring testimonials from respected leaders, including Hidalgo County District Attorney and former Edinburg Municipal Judge Terry Palacios, Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, and Texas State Representative Terry Canales, along with other notable Edinburg residents, Ochoa took the stage to speak to the crowd.
Ochoa shared his vision for Edinburg’s future and firmly expressed his stance on zero tolerance for corruption, stating:
“I will never compromise my VALUES, my NAME, my CITY for personal gain. It pains me to confront the ugly reality that just last week, we were reminded of a dark past that continues to influence how people see our beautiful City. To be crystal clear: I have zero tolerance for corruption.”
He continued, “This election presents a city-defining choice of who and what we want to be. Do we want to go backward to a time of chaos, fear, and shame? Or do we want to move forward into an era of community over self, people over politics, and smart growth that doesn’t burden our community with debt and taxes? These issues demand leadership that is experienced, trustworthy, fiscally conservative, and guided by principles.”
Ochoa has committed to taking immediate action to prevent corruption by promoting integrity and transparency in City Hall. His plan includes implementing policies and procedures to eliminate sweetheart deals, requiring mandatory ethics training for all officials and employees, and safeguarding and supporting whistleblowers who report misconduct.
Ochoa said, “Edinburg residents deserve a government that works for them, not for special interests. They deserve leadership they can trust. I am ready to lead with integrity, keep that trust, and build a city we can all be proud of.”
