Over $1.25 Million Worth of Marijuana Seized In Starr County, Texas

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – Yesterday, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City (RGC) Border Patrol Station interdicted three marijuana smuggling loads that had a total weight of over 1,567 pounds and is valued at more than $1,250,000.

Yesterday afternoon, an agent assigned to the RGC Border Patrol Station observed a raft in the Rio Grande loaded with several subjects and bundles of suspected narcotics east of Rio Grande City, Texas.  Soon thereafter, the agent observed a vehicle loading up the bundles by the Rio Grande riverbank.  Responding agents encountered the vehicle abandoned with 15 bundles of marijuana inside.  Agents reported ten subjects absconded from the immediate area and swam back into Mexico. The total weight of the marijuana was 691 pounds valued at over $552K.

About the same time, an RGC agent requested assistance with four subjects running across an open field near La Grulla, Texas.  Three of the four subjects were carrying bundles of narcotics.  Agents responded and were able to apprehend four nationals of Mexico and seized the three bundles of marijuana.  The marijuana weighed 137 pounds and is worth over $109K.

Also yesterday, agents assigned to the RGC Border Patrol Station seized approximately 740 pounds of marijuana valued at almost $592K.

All subjects apprehended were processed accordingly.
