McAllen, Texas – March 11, 2025—During its annual event, the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) celebrated leadership, resilience, and community impact by recognizing seven trailblazing women at the Radisson Hotel in McAllen. The annual “Hispanic Women Making History” event honors exceptional Latinas whose contributions significantly shape the Rio Grande Valley community.
This year’s distinguished honorees included Judge Nereida Lopez-Singleterry, Rhonda Ramirez Salinas, Felida Villarreal, Maru de la Paz, Michelle Franco-Mar, Lizzy de la Garza Putegnat, and Edna Posada. Each awardee was recognized for her extraordinary accomplishments and commitment to advocacy, education, professional development, and philanthropy.
Opening the evening, HWNT’s representative warmly welcomed attendees: “Today, we celebrate these incredible women because they are trailblazers who’ve accomplished remarkable things in their respective fields. Their stories prove what determination, hard work, and community support can achieve.”
Awardees Share Inspiring Messages:
Judge Nereida Lopez-Singleterry, the first female judge of the 476th District Court in Hidalgo County, emotionally highlighted the power of perseverance and community support:
“This award is not just for me—it’s for every woman who refused to take no for an answer. It’s about opening doors for future generations and ensuring we’re never the last.”
Rhonda Ramirez Salinas, entrepreneur and owner of Hacienda Leon Real Estate Group, reflected on the unique strength women bring to their roles:
“As women, we often overlook our strength. Tonight reminds me of the importance of pausing, reflecting, and appreciating what we’ve accomplished.”
Felida Villarreal, CEO of Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement (VIDA), passionately spoke about overcoming stereotypes:
“Someone once said I looked more like an intern than a leader, but that only motivated me further. Leadership is not about appearance or age, but about vision and impact.”
Maru de la Paz, appointed Commissioner by Governor Abbott and leader within Valley Baptist Health System, underscored community-driven leadership:
“Building real, lasting change starts with investing time, talent, and treasure into our communities. We must always show up—not just for ourselves but everyone around us.”
Michelle Franco-Mar, founder of Pooches Corner, was recognized for advocating for female entrepreneurs. Brenda, who accepted the award on Franco-Mar’s behalf, conveyed her heartfelt message:
“When one of us rises, we all rise. This award symbolizes the collective strength and unity of women.”
Lizzy de la Garza Putegnat, VP at Titan Fuel, eloquently shared her dedication to empowering the next generation of Latinas:
“Legacy is not just what you leave for people; it’s what you leave in people. Tonight’s honor reminds us to continue shattering ceilings and paving the way for others.”
Edna Posada, a prominent businesswoman and owner of Aldani Inc., encouraged solidarity among women leaders:
“Our stories matter, our voices matter, and our contributions matter. Together, we’re not just making history but shaping the future.”
The night emphasized HWNT’s crucial role in empowering Latina women, fostering professional growth, and advocating for community advancement across Texas. As stated during the ceremony, HWNT remains dedicated to promoting the educational, cultural, social, and economic well-being of all women.
As the evening concluded, attendees were reminded by these powerful stories that every woman’s journey is significant and that mutual strength is the foundation of true progress.
