EDINBURG – After skipping a year because of COVID-19, Operation Lone Star, the annual weeklong emergency preparedness exercise offering a variety of free medical services, returns to San Juan in Hidalgo County beginning Monday, July 26, 2021 at 8 a.m.
This year’s event will be held at PSJA College High School, at 805 West Ridge Road in San Juan. Among the services that will be offered this year at the highly popular community event will be COVID-19 vaccinations; school-required immunizations for children; screenings for diabetes, hearing, vision and blood pressure; sports physicals; dental and eye services.
“I’m happy to announce that this multi-agency event that is so important to so many families in Hidalgo County is returning,” said Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez. “Not only is it an opportunity to provide important medical services for our residents, but it is used as an emergency preparedness exercise to help us prepare for disasters.”
Operation Lone Star 2021 will operate Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be joint operations in Cameron, Starr, Willacy and Webb counties during the same hours.Operation Lone Star is sponsored by the Texas Department of State Health Services; the Texas Military Forces; the Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department; the Cameron County Public Health Department; Willacy County; and the Laredo Health.
