One City One Book 2021 Author Presentation & Book Signing

Laredo, Texas – The Laredo Public Library’s One City One Book is a popular reading program that connects readers citywide by offering free access through the Laredo Public Library to a well-reviewed book that the author presents. 

“Failing Up: A Professor’s Odyssey of Flunking, Determination, and Hope” is the selected community read for this year’s One City One Book event. The Laredo Public Libraries and Texas A&M International University have been partnering to bring this program to the Laredo community for over ten years.

Readers will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Barbara Hong on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library (1120 E. Calton Rd.) The Laredo community is welcome to attend the author’s presentation and book signing. This event is free and open to the public.

·Author Barbara Hong will visit the Joe A. Guerra on Saturday, October 23, at 9:30 a.m. for a meet and greet.

·Dr. Hong will begin speaking at 10:30 a.m.

·Light refreshments will be available.

About the Author:

Barbara Hong received her doctorate from Columbia University in Special Education in addition to three master’s degrees in Instructional Practices, Policy & Leadership, and as a Learning Specialist from the same institution. She was also a three-time recipient of the prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholar award.

Hong has been a professor for more than sixteen years at the time of this publication and has taught in New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Hawaii. Hong was appointed by the US State Department, Bureau of International and Information Programs, as a Speaker Specialist and Expert on Disability where she consults with governmental agencies around the globe.

Hong’s research examines the cognitive science of teaching and learning, particularly for students with disabilities, and the development of self-determination through the ethics of caring. Thus far, Hong’s research has been cited in the Handbook of Adult Learning, Wiley Library of Higher Education, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody Recommended Readings, British Library, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education Library.
