Officers Apprehend Fugitive Wanted for Homicide

HIDALGO, Texas  U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge apprehended Obed Pena, a male United States citizen from Mission, Texas who is wanted for homicide. 

“CBP Field Operations is always ready to assist in apprehending wanted persons to face their charges,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This man will have his day in court thanks to the work and collaboration with our Mexican counterparts.”

On February 24, 2022, Mexican authorities coordinated with CBP to turn over the 24-year-old man at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge. CBP officers secured Pena and escorted him to the secure secondary area where biometric verification confirmed his identity along with the active felony arrest warrant from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Pena is wanted for a murder investigation led by Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office that occurred in October of 2021 in Mission, Texas. Pena is being charged with murder and criminal attempted murder.

A Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to take custody of Pena and transported him to the county jail.

Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
