Lazaro “Larry” Gallardo will be participating in Operation Slowdown.  Operation Slowdown is a partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), which provides additional funding to law enforcement agencies across the state to help keep our roads safe.

The purpose of the initiative is to increase enforcement and adjudication of traffic safety-related laws to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes, and educate the public on what a safe speed looks like.

According to TxDOT, speed is the number one factor in roadway crashes in Texas, causing one out of every three traffic deaths. In 2021, more than 163,000 crashes in Texas involved speed, resulting in 6,493 serious injuries and 1,532 fatalities, up 8% from the previous year.

Deputy Constables will be on the lookout for traffic violators on designated roadways (high traffic areas as identified by TxDOT) within Precinct 3. The operation will commence Friday, July 14 and run through the end of month.

“We encourage drivers to be alert, slow down and drive smart,” said Constable Gallardo.
