Mission, TX- The City of Mission is breaking barriers. Former Councilwoman for Place 3, Norie Gonzalez Garza, was sworn in this afternoon as mayor by Judge Letty Lopez.

She was joined by officials from across the Rio Grande Valley as she officially took her oath of office at the Mission Event Center. 

Gonzalez Garza, a lifelong resident of the municipality, is the first woman to be elected mayor of Mission. 


Jessica Ortega, a two-time incumbent for City Council Place 1, was also sworn in for her third term by Justice of the Peace Dr. Sonia Treviño.
