Tamaulipas Governor of the state of Tamaulipas announced that Grupo Nordex, a leading transnational company in the wind energy market, has confirmed the installation of a wind turbine rotor blade production plant in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The plant is expected to generate approximately 900 jobs across the Texas border,
This is the second production plant of blade type installed in Tamaulipas in less than a year. The first was TPI Composites, responsible for the manufacture of blades for Vestas, one of the largest companies in this market worldwide.
Both plants will be operating just across the Texas border, a few miles from Brownsville.
The company has announced that it plans to begin production of the blades in the spring of 2019. This will be the second plant of its kind to begin operations in Tamaulipas in less than a year, confirming the leadership of this entity in the field of wind energy.
“The installation of Nordex in Matamoros confirms the confidence in Tamaulipas and contributes to the growth of the energy sector, we reaffirm the commitment to be a guide and support for the companies that are coming to our state,” said the Governor of Tamaulipas Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca.
The blades will be distributed in the United States and several countries in Latin America.
“With the plant in Matamoros, we are responding to the strong increase in global demand for our products. In addition to existing rotor blade production facilities in different regions, we can now also manufacture our rotor blades for North and Latin America, significantly increasing our competitiveness, “said José Luis Blanco, Executive Director of Grupo Nordex.
The plant will produce a number of rotor blades equivalent to the production of 1 GW per year and will allow its supply in local and global markets. The production will also be extended to the rotor blades for the large turbines of the AW and Delta4000 platforms.
The production plant is currently being equipped with modern molds and at full capacity, the plant will create around 900 direct and indirect local jobs.
Nordex Group has installed more than 23 GW of wind power capacity in more than 25 markets.
