Edinburg, Texas – Palm Valley Animal Society announced today a $1,350,000 grant investment, over a three-year period, from the newly named, Petco Love, to support their lifesaving work for animals in the Rio Grande Valley.

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with nearly $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations, like ours, nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Palm Valley Animal Society and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. This month, we will also launch the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”

“This type of funding is crucial for the future of our organization,” said Donna Casamento, Executive Director of Palm Valley Animal Society. “We receive only a third of the funding we need to save lives from the local municipalities we serve. We raise the rest through local philanthropy and organizations like Petco Love. We are extremely grateful for Petco Love’s lifesaving investment which will give the animals in our south Texas area another chance, well into the future.”

Palm Valley Animal Society is a nonprofit organization that takes in more than 20,000 animals every year and serves Hidalgo County and five municipalities in the Rio Grande Valley. Since overhauling the shelter and introducing no-kill strategies only three years ago, Palm Valley Animal Society has transformed into the standard bearer for animal lifesaving in the region, maintaining a save rate above 90% for more than a year.
