Over half a century ago, Fire Station #2 was completed to meet the needs of the McAllen community in 1966.  Previously designed by architect J.B. Hancock, with a square footage of 3,700, the city has since exploded in terms of growth and response required by McAllen’s first responders.

The new Fire Station #2 will almost double in size to 6,303 square feet, and will feature:
Expanded quarters for housing up to eight firefighters at a time, along with one front line fire truck and one reserve fire truck; currently the fire station can only accommodate four firefighters and one fire truck; Incorporate and comply with ADA requirements for public buildings; A friendly design to blend into the neighborhood setting.

The new facility was designed by Rudy Molina with Milnet Architectural Services.  The contractor is Granchelli Construction of McAllen, Texas.

The project is budgeted at $1.4 million and is estimated to be completed in 180 days.

A community garden that shared the property with the fire station will be incorporated into the new layout of the property.
