The McAllen Citizens League is pleased to announce the October 24, 2024 program speaker will be newly appointed McAllen City Manager Isaac “Ike” Tawil.   Mr. Tawil was appointed as the City Manager of McAllen on September 13, 2024 where he will oversee the City’s $650 million budget and be responsible for the daily management of the City’s international airport, two international ports of entry, cultural arts facilities and golf course as well as 36 city departments.  Previously, Tawil served in the City Attorney’s Office for nearly 13 years, most recently as City Attorney, where he provided McAllen with practical legal and management advice on a wide range of issues. 

Tawil brings considerable experience working with airports, public safety, code compliance, human resources, public infrastructure development, land acquisition, real estate, cultural arts, complex construction management, municipal finance, public utilities, and capital improvement procurement. 

Tawil holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law. He is an active member of Temple Emanuel and enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

The MCL was founded in 1952 to engage in educational and informative sessions; more particularly to inform the citizens of McAllen by sponsoring presentations covering current affairs, including open forum discussions of civic matters, government, health, education, arts and history and other current topics of the day.  MCL is a non-sectarian and non-partisan organization and no candidate for public office shall be endorsed by the MCL.  The McAllen Citizens League will typically meet on the third Thursday of the month, September through May for a luncheon meeting.  Membership dues are $20.00 annually.  The public is always welcome to attend but reservations are required to attend and to have lunch. 

The meeting will be held at the Rio Bank event venue located at 701 E.  Expressway 83 in McAllen.  To make your reservation to attend this luncheon, please call (956) 681-2861 and leave a detailed voice message.  Deadline for luncheon reservation will be 10/18/2024.  You may also send your email to:  info@mcallencitizensleague.org.  Lunch reservations may be paid at the registration table via credit card or check, preferred.
