EDINBURG, Texas – Agents seize over 1000 pounds of marijuana in four separate incidents.
On Saturday, Rio Grande City agents conducting line watch responded to traffic near Garceno, Texas. Agents observed an SUV approach the Rio Grande and multiple subjects began loading bundles of suspected narcotics. The vehicle quickly left the area as agents responded. A few moments later, the vehicle was seen heading south towards the Rio Grande. The driver stopped the vehicle and absconded to Mexico. In the vehicle, agents discovered eight bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 512 pounds, worth an estimated 410K.
That same day, Falfurrias checkpoint agents referred a GMC pickup for a secondary inspection. During the inspection, a total of sixteen bundles of marijuana were discovered inside the vehicle. The bundles weighed more than 273 pounds, and are worth an estimated 218K. Border Patrol turned over the seized narcotics, vehicle, and smuggler to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
This morning, Rio Grande City agents working near La Casita, Texas, responded to a report of illicit activity. Agents encountered two suspected narcotic smugglers running back to the Rio Grande. A search of the immediate area led to the discovery of two bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 116 pounds and worth an estimated 93K.
