Multiple Life Sentences for Mission Man found Guilty of Sexual Abuse of Child

EDINBURG, Texas – On December 13, 2023, a Hidalgo County jury found Reyes Salazar, 51, of Mission, guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, and two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, announced Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios. 

On August 29, 2019, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched in reference to a sexual assault allegation involving Mr. Reyes Salazar and a minor child.  Through the investigation, it was determined that Mr. Reyes had been sexually abusing the child for 3 years. 

The jury heard testimony regarding traumatic moments that the victim had to endure from ages 10-13 and the manipulation tactics utilized by Salazar to abuse her.  Salazar was sentenced by the jury to Life, without the possibility of parole, in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on each count and a fine of $10,000.00. The jury trial was heard by presiding Judge Linda Yanez, in the 206th District Court of Hidalgo County.

“The jury’s verdict sends a clear message that sexual abuse of children will not be tolerated in our beloved community,” said Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios.  “We want to thank our law enforcement partners for their hard work and dedication in bringing sex offenders to justice.”   

The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. 

Assistant District Attorneys Laura Rodriguez and Nicole Rodriguez prosecuted the case.
