Multi-agency collaboration results in pursuit, drug seizure and arrest.
BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents, working with several law enforcement agencies, seized nearly 200 pounds of marijuana Monday evening.
Brownsville agents responded reports of suspicious activity near the Riverbend neighborhood around 7:45 p.m. They spotted a black Jeep Cherokee exiting the area. When agents attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at high speed, prompting a pursuit.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers later took over the pursuit. The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned near an O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store.
Agents and troopers searching the area discovered eight bundles of marijuana inside the Jeep and the suspected driver, identified as a “Valluco” gang member, hiding behind the store.
“These narcotic smuggling cases highlight the threat by Transnational Criminal Organizations impacting our local communities every day,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez. “I commend the relentless work performed by our agents and our partner agencies, working hard to keep our communities safe.”
