The City of McAllen has officially adopted the 2024 International Code Council (ICC) Building Codes, a comprehensive set of standards designed to enhance building safety, resilience, and sustainability throughout the community.

| • International Fuel Gas Code |
| • International Mechanical Code |
| • International Energy Conservation Code |
| • International Fire Code |
| • International Swimming Pool & Spa Code |
| • International Existing Building Code |
| • International Wildland-Urban Interface Code |
| • 2023 National Electrical Code |
These codes will take effect January 1, 2026, allowing builders, developers, contractors, and property owners time to prepare for the updated requirements. “Adopting the 2024 ICC Codes ensures McAllen’s construction standards remain aligned with modern best practices nationwide,” said Norma Yado, CPM, CBO, Chief Building Official for the City of McAllen. “This update supports responsible growth, enhances efficiency, and positions our city to meet the demands of a dynamic development environment.”
In addition, the City of McAllen is expanding its inspection services to better accommodate contractor and homeowner schedules. Beginning December 2025, the Building Permits & Inspections Department will offer Saturday inspections for the following:

| • Foundation |
| • Insulation |
These added hours are designed to improve convenience, reduce project delays, and further support McAllen’s fast-paced development environment. Contractors and homeowners may call 956-681-1300 for details.

Saturday inspections are available from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; requests must be submitted Friday between 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. and indicate that the inspection is for Saturday.
