EDINBURG, Texas – The discovery of a deceased subject and the recovery of human remains magnifies the dangers illegal aliens face after crossing the Rio Grande.
On Saturday, Kingsville agents tracking a group of suspected illegal aliens discovered human remains on the vast ranchlands of Brooks County near Highway 285. Border Patrol agents contacted the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) who took custody of the remains. BCSO arranged for transportation of the remains to the Webb County Medical Examiners’ Office in Laredo, Texas.
On Monday, Mission Police Department (MPD) contacted the McAllen Border Patrol station and reported they discovered a deceased subject in a canal in Mission, Texas. An agent responded to the area and advised that MPD discovered a Mexican identification card on the deceased subject. At the direction of Justice of the Peace Luis Garza, the decedent was transported to the Hidalgo County Morgue.
That same day, Falfurrias agents received information of skeletal remains discovered on the ranch lands of Brooks County. Agents along with the BCSO responded to the area and located the decedent.
The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
