MISSION, Texas – The Mission Economic Development Corporation (Mission EDC) has allocated $225,000 to support small business growth and entrepreneurship through the continuation of its Ruby Red Ventures – Build Mission Fund, now entering its third consecutive year.
In year two, Mission EDC awarded $220,000 to 16 small businesses for operational support, facility upgrades, expansions, and working capital. These investments not only provided financial relief but also transformed local businesses, helping owners create jobs, upgrade infrastructure, and strengthen their impact in the community.

Among last year’s recipients was Nancy Santillana, owner of YumYum, who was selected from a pool of more than 90 applicants. She used her grant to improve the roof and façade of her family’s restaurant, which has been serving Mission for over 25 years.
“We’re so grateful that we have this opportunity to be able to expand, renew, and keep this safe space for this community,” Santillana said. “We probably would’ve done the renovations anyway, but it would have taken us longer to do all these things that we want to do.”
“This program has proven to be a catalyst for entrepreneurship and local investment,” said Teclo Garcia, CEO of Mission EDC. “By reducing financial barriers, we’re empowering small businesses to thrive, which in turn strengthens Mission’s economy and quality of life.”
This fall, the Build Mission Fund returns with funding and expanded opportunities to sustain momentum in Mission’s growing business community. The application is open to all small businesses located within the Mission city limits. Businesses can apply for up to $15,000 in funding.
Applications are open October 1 and close October 31, 2025, with grant awards scheduled for November.
