Teclo Garcia, chief executive officer of the Mission Economic Development Corporation, was recently recognized in San Luis Potosí, where he was designated an Honorary Representative of the Mexican state. The recognition was presented by state leadership and cited Mission EDC’s sustained efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment.

Garcia described the recognition as a significant honor. “Deeply honored to have the San Luís Potosí Governor and Economic Development Secretary designate me an Honorary Representative of the very important Mexican state in part for the Mission EDC’s work consistently promoting bilateral trade and investment,” he said.

San Luis Potosí is one of Mexico’s fastest-growing states, with a population of approximately 3 million. Garcia noted the state’s strong industrial base and multinational presence, saying, “SLP, with some 3M people, is one of the fastest-growing states in Mexico with massive multinational firms like BMW, GM, Goodyear, and Caterpillar, and many other local firms that support a strong economy.” He added that U.S.-based brands, including HEB, Marriott, and Costco, also operate in the state, and said, “I have visited multiple times.”

The recognition was presented by Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona and Economic Development Secretary Jesús Salvador González. Garcia noted that both leaders have previously visited Mission, Texas, and have prioritized international investment. “Gov. Richard Gallardo Cardona and EconDev Sec Jesus Salvador Gonzalez, both of whom have visited Mission, have focused SLP on attracting investment from Asia, Europe, and the US, creating thousands of jobs, while investing heavily into infrastructure,” he said.

Garcia said the recognition reflects years of collaborative work between Mission and San Luis Potosí. “Receiving this great recognition is a validation of all our hard work, and we are very appreciative,” he said. He emphasized that cooperation between the two regions will continue, particularly around cross-border logistics and trade routes.

“We will continue to work closely with SLP as it does with us, especially when it comes to promoting the Anzalduas International Bridge as the state’s international crossing of choice,” Garcia said, referring to the key trade corridor connecting South Texas and northern Mexico.

Garcia closed by expressing gratitude and outlining next steps in the partnership. “Again, thank you, Governor and Secretary,” he said. “I look forward to the Secretary’s visit to Mission for a January ceremony.”
