After five years as Mission, Texas City Manager, Randy Perez has decided to retire, marking the end of a notable tenure on Thursday, March 14, 2024. In late 2023, Perez had previously indicated his intention to retire from the Mission City Council, but he extended his service for several additional months before making his retirement official.

Perez was instrumental in steering the city’s administration and implementing crucial policy decisions during his tenure. Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza expressed deep gratitude for Perez’s dedication and leadership. “Randy has been a cornerstone in nurturing Mission’s residents’ and families’ growth and wellbeing. His guidance has been invaluable, and on behalf of everyone at the city—from the council to the administration and our employees—we wish him nothing but the best in his next chapter,” Mayor Garza remarked.

Perez’s commitment to excellence was further recognized on February 5, 2024, when he received the prestigious Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). This accolade places him among an elite group of around 1,300 global local government management professionals. The ICMA promotes professional local government management through leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to ethics and professional development.

Reflecting on this honor, Perez shared, “Being recognized by the ICMA is a highlight of my career. It symbolizes my dedication to the city of Mission and the core values of leadership, management, and ethics that the ICMA represents. I’m proud to have served our community with integrity and excellence.”

Earning the ICMA credential verifies an individual’s experience in senior local government management, educational achievements, and lifelong commitment to professional integrity and development.

Randy Perez represents these qualities. He has dedicated over 22 years to public service in Mission and showcased exceptional leadership since becoming city manager in 2019.
