Dear Members of the Mission Community,
Late Tuesday, I learned that I tested positive for COVID-19. Other than fatigue, I have not suffered from any other symptoms. For safety reasons and as an elected official, I wanted to share this news with all of you as soon as possible.
I have immediately begun limiting contact with others and have adopted strict social distancing measures. In line with standard protocols, the Hidalgo County Health Department will be in touch with anyone with whom I have had close contact with over the past fourteen days.
I will be taking the time I need to rest and recuperate during two-week isolation at home. I am blessed with an amazing family, and great colleagues on the Mission City Council. I am more than confident that they will lead the city in a positive direction while we grapple with this unprecedented challenge. I thank you in advance, for your good wishes.Â
This virus will not beat us. Our community is steadfast and strong. We all need to be vigilant and keep following guidelines to limit our contact with others. Your actions over the next several weeks will determine if we flatten the curve and reduce the rate at which people are becoming sick with COVID-19.
Thank you to every single Rio Grande Valley health care professional, grocery store employee and first responder out there that are our true heroes on the frontline. Please practice social distancing so that we do not overwhelm our health care system. I urge you to continue following the guidance of public health experts and the advice and orders of our county health officials.
Wishing each of you good health.
Sincerely, Mission City Councilman Alberto Vela
