Mission CISD had a Scratch Coding training for 4th and 5th grade teachers conducted by Marc Villarreal (R. Cantu Jr. High teacher/trainer) on Tuesday, October 15th. Scratch Coding is an introduction to programming and allows students to learn coding essentials which later can be applied to their own animated stories and interactive games. Coding knowledge allows students not only to be creative but also to explore the world of programming.
Scratch Coding was incorporated into the Mission CISD curriculum a year ago and as part of a two-year grant that was initiated by the Advanced Academics/UIL department. Students exposure to coding at the younger grades allows them to gain knowledge and be even more prepared in this area.
A total of six trainers of teachers that meet monthly with K to 8th grade teachers to collaborate on the most up to date changes in coding. The trainers are Marc Villarreal, Daniel Reyna, Rhonda Pena, Beatriz Garza, Joselias Hinojosa, and Samuel Victorino.
