Mission, Texas – When the first day of school arrives for Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) on August 16, campuses will be ready to welcome back all students for in-person instruction. District officials have been informed by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that the district will not be allowed to offer a virtual option for students. All instruction is to take place in person.
“While we are looking forward to seeing all our students back in the classrooms this fall, we know there will be some parents who will still be a bit uneasy,” said Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “It has been a big adjustment for everyone in the community to return to more normal working and living conditions. I want to reassure all our parents that we will continue to follow all appropriate health-related guidance this coming school year. Providing a healthy learning environment has always been and will continue to be important to us.”
Dr. Perez said the district plans to continue with many of the protocols that were implemented this past spring as more students began to return to campuses. This includes heightened cleaning and sanitizing, frequent handwashing, encouraging face coverings/masks, etc.
Dr. Perez also said the district will continue to work with area partners to provide COVID-19 vaccination clinics, especially as more age groups are permitted to receive the vaccine.
District officials say they know parents have questions about different aspects of operations and attendance. Officials say they are waiting for updated guidance and guidelines from the state, and will share details with parents as soon as possible.
“In the meantime, it is important that parents understand that we will continue to focus on providing the best learning environment we can as we get ready to welcome all our students back into the classrooms in August,” Dr. Perez added.
