Mission, Texas – The Mission Consolidated Independent School District held an emergency meeting at noon today to address issues to ensure administration and staff have what is needed to provide for instruction, nutrition, and other needs of students as the community responds to COVID-19 and the closure of schools.

The trustees unanimously approved a resolution granting authority to the superintendent to take a number of steps as needed without prior board approval.

“At the heart of this is our desire to maintain a corps of dedicated and caring employees wishing to provide the greatest amount of stability for students and staff while continuing to ensuring their safety,” explained Dr. Carol G. Perez, superintendent. “I greatly appreciate the support of our trustees in authorizing the items included in this resolution as it will allow us to respond responsibly and quickly to the ever-evolving nature of this health emergency closure in the best way possible.”

Dr. Perez said this will allow the district leadership to make sure all employee salaries are taken care of during the closure and that employees who work during the response period will be compensated fairly. She said this will also allow for any required purchasing to serving students throughout the period of the closure, including providing meals for students who need them.

“In the coming days we will begin to announce more details to our families regarding how they can access the student lessons online or through printed packets to be picked up by parents, as well as schedules for providing meals to students,” Perez added. “There is a tremendous amount of details still being ironed out and we appreciate the strong support of the leaders in our three communities (Mission, Alton, Palmhurst) as we move forward together to serve the needs of our joint educational community.”

The full resolution will be made available in the special COVID-19 section of the Mission CISD website where the district continues to provide information and resources for families, www.mcisd.net
