Mission CISD awarded Teacher Incentive Allotment Grant

Mission CISD is the recipient of the Teacher Incentive Allotment grant approved by the Texas Education Agency. This means great news for Mission CISD teachers that meet the incentive allotment criteria.

“We are so pleased to have received this grant and this will help our district not only reward our teachers that are demonstrating exemplary work each day in our classrooms, but it will also aid in retaining and recruiting exceptional educators,” states Dr. Carol G. Perez, Superintendent. “We want to provide the absolute best for all our students.”

The teachers that would like to be considered for this incentive would need to meet the following criteria: 1) be a certified teacher with one year of creditable service; 2) be the teacher of record with a class roster; and 3) are T-TESS appraised.

The district’s Curriculum and Instruction department collected data through a survey sent out to teachers this past spring. The collected data showed that teachers wanted to be evaluated using the Student Learning Objectives (SLO) as the measure of student growth.

Evidence for the SLOs must be collected throughout the year, and the C&I Department has been working to set up these systems to collect the evidence (TEA calls this the Body of Evidence). All data (T-TESS and SLO) is verified through Texas Tech. Teachers meeting the requirements for student growth and T-TESS appraisal are eligible for $3,000 to $32,000, paid by the state.

For Mission CISD, 2021-2022 is the data capture year, with the first submission being by November 2022 (data is captured this year, but monetary awards are not paid out until 2023). The data will be posted for our cohort in the summer of 2022.

The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) was created by the Texas Legislature as part of House Bill 3 to provide a realistic pathway for top teachers to earn six-figure salaries and to help attract and retain highly effective teachers at traditionally hard-to-staff schools.
