Mission CISD athlete recipient of Special Olympics of Texas award

Mission CISD High School had 14 athletes recently competed in the 2020 Special Olympics Texas State Bowling Tournament in Pharr, Texas. The tournament was held at the Main Event Center in Pharr, Texas. The Main Event in Pharr, Texas was one of nine selected centers in Texas to host a statewide tournament, which was held Feb 6th, 7th, and 9th, 2020.  More than 12 School districts and local agencies participated in this 3-day event, which included state of the art facilities, challenging competition, incredible opening ceremonies each day, a victory dance and lasting memories for everyone involved.

One of the athlete’s, Alexis Ayala, a junior at Veterans Memorial High School, was awarded the “Christi Stanley Award” Bowling Most Inspirational Athlete of the Year, RGV Area 1. This award is presented to an athlete that represents the “True Spirit of Special Olympics”.

Alexis at first had no interest in sports and was extremely shy. Through Special Olympics, he has overcome many obstacles including several surgeries. Alexis always has a big smile and a positive attitude.  His enthusiasm is contagious and always encourages everyone to do better. His enthusiasm and cheerfulness bring a great and positive energy to the program. Congratulations Alexis Ayala!
