Mission, Texas – The Mission CISD executive leadership has been meeting on a daily basis since Friday to conference with the state, county, and city leaders and are working to meet the needs of all of our students.

Due to the evolving developments and guidance from the Texas Education Agency and health officials regarding COVID-19, the district will begin to implement a change in operations beginning Monday, March 23, 2020.

Mission CISD schools will remain open. However, parents acting out of concern, who choose to keep children home, will not have their children counted as absent as long as they are accessing instruction from the district which will be made available through packets that parents can pick up at the campus or through digital lessons. The same applies to any child sick with a fever.

Children sent to school will receive regular instruction in the classroom with steps taken to limit gatherings to fewer than 50 people (CDC guidelines), include lunchtimes and areas for student pick up at the end of the day. All afterschool events and practices are canceled.

All district employees are to report to work, on March 23.

As of this time (March 16, 2020), there have not been any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hidalgo County. The steps being taken are to allow for student’s needs to be met as best as possible while allowing for the flexibility some parents need during this time.

Contingency plans are continuing to be worked on and will be changed as needed based upon guidance from our city, county and state officials.

In the coming days, we will be announcing more information about how students can access our digital instructional content and instructional packets, and more.

An emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees has been scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17 to address operational issues relating to our responses to COVID-19 now and in the future.

As this is a continually developing situation, things may change, so please continue to monitor official district and campus websites and communication. We appreciate your support as we strive to provide for the needs of our students and staff.
