Texas Border Business

Brenda Enriquez couldn’t be happier in celebrating a check presentation that benefits the Mission Consolidated Independent School District. Brenda is the President and CEO of the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce; she has been the leading force for the last three years. Even though the last fourteen months have been the most challenging for anyone, that was not an obstacle for the Mission Chamber team to celebrate activities to raise funds to help the community.
Brenda told Texas Border Business that they had to be creative during the pandemic on how to deliver good programming and networking online. “One of the good things was that the vaccine was available giving a sense of comfort for people to go out there.” She continued, “The Mission Citrus Golf Classic is an event that is outdoors lending itself during a perfect time; people were ready.” The golf tournament took place on May 7, 2021.
She pointed out that they had a very successful golf tournament, with the same, if not more participation than before COVID-19. “We are grateful for the success that benefits our community; that is why we’re able to make that $5,000 donation.”
Lance Ames, the outgoing chairman for the Mission Chamber, expressed satisfaction for the Mission Citrus Golf Classic tournament’s success. He said, “Whenever you get a group of local business and community leaders who want to make a difference and want to support each other and lift the community, great things are going to happen.” He continued, “It’s an honor to be part of the Mission Chamber of Commerce and to be a part of a growing and successful community.” Lance is the CEO of South Texas Health System, Children’s Hospital, and Edinburg Hospital.
The incoming chairwoman-elect for the chamber is Ronnie Ontiveros; she, just like Lance, is a great supporter of the chamber and passionate about community participation. Ronnie is a Real Estate Agent and Broker.
Ronnie also participated in the golf tournament, raising funds to benefit the school district. “Mission chamber gives back all the time. Today, we have the opportunity to provide a scholarship donation to Mission CISD. She also agrees that the success is because of the excellent participation of everyone despite the pandemic.
Dr. Carolina “Carol” G. Perez, Superintendent for the Mission CISD, attended the event to receive the donation. She was most grateful and proud to partner with the Mission Chamber.
“We do collaborative efforts with the chamber. Every year they host the principal for a day event where community members come and chat with our principals, and then we have a luncheon at the chamber’s quarters.” She noted, “That is one of the activities of the partnership that we do.” She added, “But we collaborate very often on all kinds of activities.”
“On behalf of the board of trustees, I want to thank the Chamber from the bottom of my heart for all they do. In the end, the benefactors will be our children. So, thank you,” expressed Dr. Perez.
Brenda also took this opportunity to thank the sponsors and donors that made possible this sucessful golf tournament. “You can never say thank you enough. So, I want to thank all our supporters for allowing us to do great things. Today we get to give Mission CISD a $5,000 donation.”
