IBC Bank-McAllen management and state officials join students for launch of IBC Bank’s latest Minitropolis® program
(Jan. 2016) MCALLEN, TEXAS – Students at Mustangville, a small city inside Mims Elementary in Mission, Texas, celebrated the launch and grand opening of their Minitropolis® program with a ribbon-cutting on Jan. 22. The ceremony included Mission Mayor Norberto Salinas and Mustangville Mayor Antonio Gamez unveiling the city sign. The Mission Chamber of Commerce and the Mustangville Chamber of Commerce conducted the official ribbon cutting.
During the event, IBC Bank-McAllen Senior Vice President Dora Brown spoke about the history and vision of the IBC Bank Minitropolis® programs, which are established in the bank’s regions across the state. Furthermore, Mims Elementary Principal Yvonne R. Zamora hosted the event, presenting Brown with the first key to the city of Mustangville. Texas Rep. Sergio Munoz and the Mission CISD Superintendent Dr. Ricardo Lopez were on hand to commend the citizens of Mustangville and Mims Elementary faculty for their hard work and dedication to such an important program.
The Minitropolis® program offers students a variety of real world positions, depending on their individual interests and passions, and gives them the opportunity to see how an interdependent community operates. In addition to an IBC Bank in the Mustangville Minitropolis®, students have the opportunity to work for the Mustangville Times (The Monitor), KMIMS radio, television station (KRGV), police department (Mission Police), city council (City of Mission), future nurses (Mission Regional Medical Center), music store (Crescendo Music Institute), book outlet (Speer Memorial Library), Mustangville Chamber of Commerce (Mission Chamber of Commerce), Walmart, HEB, recycling center, future teachers, IRS, treasury, post office, Horseshoe Arcade and The Code Corral, a coding/technology room.
“The Minitropolis® program is an interactive learning environment that reinforces the importance of financial literacy for generations to come,” Brown said. “IBC Bank is committed to educating and empowering the students at Mims Elementary with these practical life lessons.”
IBC Bank-McAllen officers, along with county and city officials, joined Mustangville citizens to commemorate the occasion.
