PHARR, Texas – PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School hosted the 7th Annual STEM Camp themed “STEMBusters” on Friday, March 11, 2022.
As part of the event, current 8th grade students from various PSJA ISD middle schools engaged in interactive project-based learning activities on geology, chemistry, anatomy, graphic arts, engineering, and physics.
This year’s theme, STEMbusters, had students join the ranks of Dr. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spangler and Winston Zeddemore as investigators of STEM. Like the original and new generation of Ghostbusters, students used STEM to understand, capture, and contain ‘ghosts.’
“I love biology and STEM. I was 10 years old when I decided I wanted to attend this school,” said Clarissa Quails a student at Austin Middle School. “I got really excited for the sessions and know I will learn a lot.”
As one of PSJA ISD’s designated Early College campuses by the Texas Education Agency, PSJA T-STEM provides advanced educational opportunities to all students so they may graduate from high school with up to 60 college credit hours or an Associate Degree from South Texas College.
The camp is held each year as part of the school’s efforts to continue exposing students to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or STEM fields while demonstrating the different opportunities available at the campus for current and future students.
The campus is still welcoming current 8th grade students interested in STEM to register for the 2022-2023 school year. PSJA ISD welcomes students living anywhere in the Rio Grande Valley.
