EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced today the signing of midfielder Michael Knapp to the club’s 2023 USL Championship roster. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
Knapp adds a multi-function option to the midfield, capable of both playing a defensive role and aiding the attacking wings and front line. The New Jersey native has spent the past season in the USL Championship with the New York Red Bulls II. Across two seasons, Knapp appeared in 43 matches and logged 2,349 minutes of action overall as a formidable midfield asset for the side.
A graduate of the New York Red Bulls Academy ranks in 2017, Knapp competed collegiately for Montclair State University between 2018-19, earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the year honors in 2018. The following season he locked in yet another award, being named the NJAC Midfielder of the Year.
During his college career, Knapp also competed for the Red Bulls U-23s in USL League Two before joining the professional ranks with the Red Bulls II ahead of the 2021 season.
