McAllen native, business leader, and longtime community advocate Michael Fallek announced his candidacy for the District 5 seat on the McAllen City Commission, recently vacated by Seby Haddad. The position will be decided in a special election on May 2, 2026.

“Seby Haddad provided tremendous leadership throughout his tenure, and our community owes him sincere gratitude for his years of dedicated service,” said Fallek. “He led with strength, responsibility, and a clear focus on McAllen’s needs. I intend to bring that same leadership and vision while building on our city’s many strengths to ensure an even stronger future.”

As District 5 Commissioner, Fallek will focus on responsible governance through sound policy decisions, strategic economic development, and fiscal oversight to support job creation and a strong local business climate. He is committed to thoughtful planning, infrastructure investment, and public safety initiatives that preserve McAllen’s role as the region’s economic leader. Fallek will work collaboratively with the Mayor and fellow Commissioners, city staff, and neighboring municipalities to ensure decisions are made in the best interest of McAllen’s residents, with a focus on the City’s long-term growth.

Fallek was born and raised in McAllen and has lived in District 5 for most of his life. Since returning to McAllen in 1998 after college and law school, Fallek has dedicated much of his free time by volunteering his knowledge and skills to be service to the City and the community as a whole. With the decades of professional and civic service, Fallek brings a strong understanding of the city’s challenges, opportunities, and future potential.

His career as an entrepreneur and community leader has reinforced his commitment to responsible growth, collaboration, and service.

A third-generation McAllen resident, Fallek is a graduate of the McAllen public school system and was Salutatorian of his class at McAllen High School. He earned his undergraduate degree with highest honors from The University of Texas at Austin and later received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.

After completing his education, Fallek returned home to McAllen with his wife to raise their family in the community he loves. Over the past 20 years, he has helped launch and grow several successful McAllen-based businesses, primarily in hospitality and real estate, contributing to local investment and the creation of thousands of jobs throughout the Rio Grande Valley. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Texas Regional Bank for the past 15 years.
