Phoenix, Arizona – The third-seeded University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to the #3 Air Force Falcons in the closing seconds of their opening round match in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday at GCU Stadium.
With the match scoreless in the final minute, the Falcons (10-7-1) took a pair of corner kicks before Jake Chaffetz got the header over the top of UTRGV goalie Oliver Padilla (5-6) for the game-winner.
It was an evenly fought match as the Falcons outshot the Vaqueros (8-9) 14 to nine and five to four on goal. Both teams took nine corner kicks.
Padilla finished the match with four saves while Falcon’s goalie Kainoa Likewise also finished with four saves.
