Texas Border Business
LAREDO, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team finished in 16th place to close out the Border Olympics on Tuesday at Laredo Country Club.
The Vaqueros posted a final round team score of 308 to finish with a three-round score of 915. UTRGV finished five shots back of Miami (OH) and Western Carolina for 14th and six shots back of Bowling Green for 13th.
Junior Javier Neria Garcia cracked the top-25 as he finished tied for 24th with a three-round score of 222. Garcia posted a team-best final round score of two-over 74.
Junior Leonardo Novella finished tied for 62nd with a three-round score of 230 after posting a final round 77. Sophomore Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished tied for 73rd after turning in a final round 79 for a three-round score of 234.
Junior Carlos Roldos finished tied for 77th with a three-round score of 236 after carding a final round 83 and redshirt sophomore Taj Sutherland finished tied for 81st with a three-round score of 237 after a final round 78.
Baylor held on to their first day lead to win the team title with a three-round score of 856 as they posted a final round 293. Houston’s Santiago De La Fuente won the individual championship with a three-round score of 212 after a final round 71.
The Vaqueros will be back in action Feb. 20-21 when they tee it up at the Bayou Classic, hosted by Rice, at Westwood Golf Club.
