Men’s Golf Closes Out Fall Season with Third Place Finish

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf closed out their fall season with a third-place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the NMSU Golf Course.

The Vaqueros posted a final round 288, which ties their lowest single round of the fall season after posting a 288 in the first round, to finish with a three-round score of 868.

UTRGV finished just one stroke behind Northern Colorado for second place and nine shots back of tournament champion New Mexico State, who finished with a three-round score of 859.

Sophomore Leonardo Novella led the Vaqueros as he tied for ninth place with a three-round total of 216 after posting a final round three-over par 74.

Sophomore Rhaasrikanesh Kanavathi posted the field’s lowest round of the day as he carded a four-under 67 with four birdies, an eagle, two bogeys and 11 pars on the day. Kanavathi finished with a three-round score of 217 to finish tied for 11^th.

Freshman Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque also finished tied for 11^th with a three-round total of 217 after posting a final round two-over par 73. Freshman Lars van der Vight finished in 28^th place with a three-round score of 222 after carding a final round three-over par 74 and sophomore Sebastian Lundberg finished tied for 41^st with a three-round score of 227 after turning in a final round 79.

Oklahoma State’s Tiger Christensen won the individual title with a three-round score of 203 after closing out the tournament with a 73.
