RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team announced on Wednesday the addition of Lars van der Vight to the roster for the 2021-22 academic year.
“Lars is very mature and very talented,” UTRGV head coach Philip Tate said. “I look forward to his hard work ethic and determination to mix well with the personalities we already have here.”
Van der Vight comes to UTRGV from Retie, Belgium where he attended Sint-Claracollege. Van der Vight began playing international tournaments when he was 14 years old when he was asked to join the Dutch National U15 Team.
In 2020, van der Vight won the GolfTon Tournament Portugal and the Junior Open of Flanders while finishing second at the Haenen Youth Open. Last year, van der Vight posted a 72.6 scoring average while lowering his best single-round score to a 64.
