Mayor Jim Darling, the Chamber of Commerce and local business leaders will host a news conference Monday Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. to promote some major news in retail development in the City. The City of McAllen has attracted numerous nationally known restaurants and retailers to the southwest side of the city and the area has been distinguished as a hub for economic innovation and progress.

McAllen’s newest tenants represent national and regional retailers that offer a variety of goods and services. The Embassy Suites Convention Center Hotel, McAllen Performing Arts Center, multiple shopping centers and unique restaurants (such as Saltgrass Steakhouse and Tilted Kilt) have located there. Many others that will soon open their doors in the southwest area of McAllen will also be unveiled.

The new attractions cement McAllen as the region’s restaurant and retail hub. Developing McAllen’s southwest side has been a longtime strategic goal for the city – especially as it coordinated with the Anzalduas Bridge Corridor. The area will provide numerous dining and shopping opportunities for McAllen and RGV residents, Mexican nationals and other tourists.
