McAllen’s Champion Lakes Golf Course to Host Golf Qualifier for Trip to Augusta National Golf Club, May 3rd

Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen, Texas, is proud to be the host golf course for the Drive, Chip & Putt Local Qualifier on Friday, May 3, 2024, starting at 3:00 p.m.  Hosted in partnership with the Southern Texas Professional Golf Association (STPGA) and the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department, the event is open to junior golfers ages 7 to 15 years old.  Participants will have three shots at each station and qualifying golfers will advance to the Regional portion and a chance at the National Competition at Augusta National Golf Club, where they will compete against junior golfers from across America.

“The STPGA is thrilled to be hosting a Drive, Chip & Putt Local Qualifier at Champion Lakes Golf Course. With the mission of our Junior Golf Program being to grow the game by creating lifelong golfers, we take great pride in providing as many playing opportunities to junior golfers across Southern Texas as possible,” said STPGA’s John Miller. “Drive Chip & Putt provides a great avenue for junior golfers of all skill levels to get involved in the game of golf with a focus on the fundamentals. Come out to Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen for this exciting event as someone’s shot at competing at Augusta National Golf Club could be just a mere 27 shots away!” 

There are no skill level requirements to take part in the competition.

To sign up, head to www.McAllenParks.net by 4:00 p.m. on April 28 to secure a spot in the competition. 

“It is an honor for Champion Lakes Golf Course to partner up with the STPGA and the City of McAllen’s Parks & Recreation Department to host this event for the first time,” said Carlos Espinosa, Golf Pro and Director of the Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen. “Aside from the wonderful experience of this competition, the Drive, Chip and Putt is a family golf outing that provides junior golfers in our area the opportunity to participate in a national event, right here at home. I invite everyone to come out, experience it and help cheer on our junior golfers.”

According to Denny Meline, Director for the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department and Espinosa, Champion Lakes Golf Course was selected by the Southern Texas PGA to host the

Drive, Chip & Putt Local Qualifier because of the amenities the City of McAllen and Champion Lakes Golf Course offer.  Participants should be able to shoot their best swing at each station, helping to make the qualifier quite competitive.
